How to play Soundings
In Soundings, each number counts the unshaded squares it sees in all four directions. The numbered square itself counts too.
The rules
- Shade squares until each number has, in its row and column, the unshaded squares it says.
- A number says how many unshaded squares it sees in a straight line up, down, left and right, counting itself.
- What it sees stops at the first shaded square, or at the edge.
- Two shaded squares can't touch side by side.
- And the squares you don't shade all stay connected to one another.
Where to start
Count the numbered square first, then look in each direction as far as a shaded square or the edge. Every shaded square forces the squares sharing an edge with it to stay unshaded; use that rule as you go.
